February 2009 - Dawn Mars fly-by
Dawn's navigators placed the spacecraft on a close approach trajectory with Mars so the planet's gravitational influence would provide a kick to the spacecraft's velocity.

September 2007 - Ion Propulsion tested
NASA's Dawn spacecraft successfully completed the first test of its ion propulsion system over the weekend. The system is vital to the success of Dawn's 8-year, 4.9 billion-kilometer (3-billion-mile) journey to asteroid Vesta and dwarf planet Ceres.

September 2007 - Dawn Launched
Dawn successfully launched on its Delta II booster at Cape Canaveral. The weather forecast called for 60 percent chance of favorable conditions for the liftoff.
